MICHELE MEROLA, Artistic Director, Agora Coaching Project

Graduated from Associazione Balletto Classico run by Liliana Cosi e Marinel Stefanescu in Reggio Emilia, he worked as a dancer for different companies such as Aterballetto, Arena di Verona, Toulon Opera House and Fabulasaltica di Rovigo. 

Michele Merola is currently the artistic director and the lead choreographer of MM Contemporary Dance Company, a contemporary dance company founded in 1999. Through this company, he staged, both in Italy and abroad, several choreographies among which Mattanza (winner of the 17th Choreography International Competition in Hannover, Germany, 2003), La Capinera (best choreography award, Serbia 2007 and at the Purgatorije festival in Tivat, Montenegro 2007), La metà dell’ombra (winner of the Anita Bucchi award, Italy 2010) and Con le labbra dipinte (first performance for the Seoul International Dance Festival Sidance 2010, Korea), Narciso (2012), Bolero (2015), Pulcinella (2016), Gershwin suite (2018).

Since 2000, Michele Merola has also created various choreographies for other companies like Aterballetto (2001, Reggio Emilia), the S. Carlo Theater (2003, Naples), the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater (2007, Etats-Unis), the Massimo Theater in Palermo (2008), Tuscany Ballet (2009, Florence), Terazijama Theater in Belgrade (2007-2010, Serbia).

In 2008, he won the Positano Leonide Masside Award for the Art of Dance, and in 2010, MM Contemporary Dance Company won the Danza&Danza award as best emerging Italian company. In 2016, he won the GD Award 2016 (www.giornaledelladanza.com) as best Italian choreographer. In 2017, MM Contemporary Dance Company won the Europaindanza 201 award – Choreography Merit Award, for the Belero show, a Michele Merola choreography. In 2018, he created a new piece with a Ravel music for the Tanzcompagnie Landesbühnen Sachsen in Dresden.

Since 2010, Michele Merola is, with Enrico Morelli, the artistic director of Agora Coaching Project, a professional improvement project for dancers, based in Reggio Emilia.

ENRICO MORELLI, Artistic Director, Agora Coaching Project

Enrico Morelli is a dancer and a choreographer. He studied dance in Barletta. In 1999, he graduated from the Dance National Academy where he, then, followed the teaching training program.

His creativity got him to take part in many choreographic competitions, when he won the first place to the Michele Abate Competition in Caltanissetta, to the Town of Perugia Competition, to the International Dance Festival in Rieti and to the Estate Danza in Florence. From 1997 to 2003, he worked as a dancer at the Concerti N. Piccinni Foundation, the Milena Zullo’s Arte Balletto company, the Piccinni Ballet and with Micha Van Hoeke.

In 2001, he received, being a dancer, the silver medal from the Republic President. Since 2004, he has taken part, as both a dancer and a choreographer, in the MM Contemporary Dance Company. Since 2003, he has created choreographies for the Astra Roma Ballet, the school of the Roma Opera Theater, the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater (USA), the Florentine Maggio Musicale, the Florence KAOS company, Palermo in Danza, the Szeged Kortàrs Ballet of Hongry, the Milwaukee Ballet (USA), as well as the MM Contemporary Dance Company and the Agora Coaching Project. In 2018, he was named as resident choreographer for the Szeged Kortars Ballet.

In 2010, he founded and ran, together with Michele Merola, the Agora Coaching Project, a professional improvement project for dancers, based in Reggio Emilia.
